The Interpretation of the Ogbomoso Community Logo
Colour is important for identity. The Ogbomoso
community (OCF) colours are Aro, indigo blue
(0.012) and Osun Camwood (1.013) both of which
are creative colour, indigenous to the Ogbomoso
and of great economic, cultural and philosophical
importance. Aro and Osun are the subject
of many proverbs and idioms which is suggests that as
shown in the LOGO, the OCF should keep to these two
colours in all their publications, banners, decoration
etc. to create unique own identity.
LOGO consists of a map of Ogbomosoland and the
letters ‘O’, ‘C’ and ‘F’ is
interlocked with Ogbo at the base. The
interlock depicts joint action and team spirit among
the constituents that form Ogbomoso.
The
map which encompasses the symbols depicts unity and
indivisibility of the people bound together in one
common destiny. Ogbo as the oldest
Yoruba weapon of war symbolizes age, indomitable power
and victory at warfare. Ogbo like other Yoruba
weapon of war has an oriki which says:
E woju ogbo yere yere;
E weyin ogbo yere yere;
E foju ogbo bogun;
E feyin ogbo bogun ja.
Translation:
ogbo has a smooth shining surface;
Ogbo has a back view;
Equally smooth shining confronts war with the front surface of ogbo;
Wrestle war with the back-view of ogbo.
It
is significant that ogbo which is the traditional
symbol of Ogbomoso is philosophically related to the
name of the city Ogbomoso and may be there in an
etymological connection.
